How Mattermost Uses Rudderstack to Enable Data-driven Product Decisions

Mattermost, an open‑source, self‑hosted collaboration platform for developers and IT teams, struggled to make data‑driven product decisions because their previous CDP’s pricing limited telemetry (they could only sync 2% of events) and stored customer data in vendor infrastructure, creating vendor lock‑in and security concerns. To address this, Mattermost evaluated RudderStack and its warehouse‑first, open‑source approach, including RudderStack SDKs and Event Stream for cross‑platform tracking.

RudderStack was deployed in Mattermost’s VPC to capture real‑time events from web, mobile, and server SDKs, validate and transform data, and sync the complete dataset to Snowflake; it also integrates signals from Zendesk, Salesforce, and Marketo. As a result, Mattermost can now send 100% of event data to a central warehouse, gain a 360° view of the customer journey, build cohorts for targeted marketing, and provide product teams with fine‑grained usage insights — all while avoiding vendor lock‑in and meeting high‑trust security requirements.
