United Center upgrades Wi‑Fi for 23,000+ fans with RUCKUS Networks

The United Center, a major indoor arena and home to the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, faced a struggling legacy Wi-Fi network that could not handle dense crowds or new fan devices. To upgrade to Wi-Fi 6 and provide complete coverage, they engaged RUCKUS Networks and its Large Public Venues (LPV) Professional Services team for a total network redesign.

RUCKUS Networks implemented a solution utilizing indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi 6 access points, ICX® switches, SmartZone™ controllers, and Cloudpath security. Their Professional Services team created a detailed 3-D model for deployment, which was strategically scheduled around the venue's busy event calendar. The results include a superior fan experience without stalling, stronger security, single-pane-of-glass management with enhanced analytics, and a scalable network. The project also enabled an upgrade to 5G via a CommScope DAS system, reducing equipment space and cooling costs.
