Smarter Wi-Fi Streamlines Clinical Operations, Improves Patient Care for Large Healthcare Provider

Central Utah Clinics, a network of 20 multispecialty outpatient clinics serving over 110 physicians, was struggling with unreliable Wi‑Fi from aging Cisco APs: frequent dropouts, flaky VoIP, and devices like iPads failing to connect to the AllScripts EMR. IT teams spent time troubleshooting remote sites, and plans to upgrade to Cisco controllers were cost‑prohibitive, while the organization needed a secure, centrally managed 802.11n solution with WPA2 and better performance.

CUC replaced its deployment with Ruckus ZoneFlex — dual‑band 7363 APs, redundant ZoneDirector 3050 controllers and FlexMaster management over the MPLS backbone (with Cinergy Wi‑Fi support). The new system halved the number of APs per clinic yet delivered 2–3× better range and performance, stabilized iPad and VoIP connectivity, reduced packet loss and remote site visits, provided seamless controller failover and dynamic per‑device PSKs, all at a lower overall cost than the Cisco alternative.
