Smarter Wi-Fi Solves Connectivity and Coverage Problems for Physicians, Improves Patient Care

Grove Hill Medical, a privately held multi‑specialty network with nine outpatient clinics in Connecticut, depended on Wi‑Fi for electronic records, lab orders, prescriptions and tablet-based imaging. Its aging 3Com 802.11g deployment had unmanaged APs, spotty coverage and frequent electromagnetic interference (notably from radiology), and a small IT team needed a centrally managed, higher‑speed wireless solution that could reliably support multimedia.

Grove Hill deployed approximately 50 Ruckus ZoneFlex 7962 dual‑band 802.11n APs managed by a single ZoneDirector 3100 over a hub‑and‑spoke network; APs auto-registered and use adaptive antennas to reject interference. The upgrade improved throughput and signal coverage, enabled HD/IP video, simplified administration and security, and reduced Wi‑Fi help desk tickets by about 90–95%, freeing IT to focus on patient care and new 5 GHz services.
