Smart Wireless Turns Norderstedt into Smart City

wilhelm.tel, the municipal telecommunications provider for Norderstedt, set out to create a comprehensive citywide Wi‑Fi to boost tourism and business appeal. The project needed carrier‑grade, high‑density coverage (e.g., stations) while meeting regulatory and aesthetic constraints for unobtrusive access‑point placement and supporting many concurrent users.

Partnering with BMAnetworks, wilhelm.tel selected Ruckus Wireless and deployed ZoneFlex T300, 7782 and R710 APs using BeamFlex and ChannelFly to optimize signal and minimize interference. The result is MobyKlick: free public Wi‑Fi across much of Norderstedt and parts of the Hamburg metro, reliable performance in crowded areas, encrypted private access for customers, and an infrastructure that preserves the cityscape while enhancing the city’s attractiveness.
