A RUCKUS Networks Case Study
The Sheraton Gateway LAX is a 15‑story hotel near Los Angeles International Airport with over 800 guest rooms and more than 500,000 sq. ft. of space. The property faced poor in‑room connectivity because guest wiring was limited Cat‑3 phone cabling (10–15 Mbps) and recabling 800 rooms was prohibitively expensive, while concrete/rebar construction and a three‑wing layout made wireless coverage challenging for a small IT staff on a tight budget.
Working with Hotel Internet Services, the hotel deployed a Ruckus ZoneFlex solution—48 ZoneFlex 2942 APs and a ZoneDirector 1050—with meshing and centralized management. Four APs per floor deliver Wi‑Fi to all 802 rooms (about 17 rooms per AP), at roughly $35 per room and about half the cost of competing bids. The system launched quickly, is remotely managed, improved signal reliability and guest satisfaction, reduced support calls, and enables future services like VoIP and digital signage.
