A RUCKUS Networks Case Study
The city of San José, the third largest city in California, faced the challenge of closing the digital divide by expanding free Wi-Fi access to its low-income residents and downtown visitors. They needed to extend their network using existing infrastructure while minimizing management and adhering to a strict budget. To address this, they partnered with RUCKUS Networks.
RUCKUS Networks implemented a solution using hundreds of its outdoor access points, ICX switches, and the SmartZone Network Controller. These were installed on city-owned assets like street lights and buildings to extend the indoor fiber network into the communities. The result was the creation of America's fastest free public Wi-Fi network, which seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure, avoided interference, and future-proofed the city's investment.
