Ruckus Wireless Connects Fans to Club with Reliable, Fast Wi-Fi

Ghelamco Stadium in Gent, Belgium — home to KAA Gent and seating 20,000 — faced persistent connectivity complaints from fans, press and staff because the venue was built without Wi‑Fi. The club needed a scalable, high‑density WLAN that could support streaming, large numbers of concurrent users and provide reliable coverage anywhere in the stadium to improve the fan experience and enable direct engagement.

Telenet and partner Alcadis deployed Ruckus 802.11ac Wave 2 access points (ZoneFlex R710, R500, 7782) plus the SmartCell Gateway, using BeamFlex, ChannelFly and MU‑MIMO to boost coverage and throughput. The rollout now supports an average of 5,000 concurrent clients, enables live streaming and the Play Sports app, and has increased fan engagement and data-driven marketing opportunities for the club.
