Ruckus Provides Champion-Caliber Wired and Wireless Network

Neumann University, a private Catholic institution of about 3,000 students, faced chronic wireless problems as students returned to campus each term: unreliable Wi‑Fi (about 75% of help‑desk complaints), poor coverage in cinderblock residence halls, limited switch PoE, and a small 12‑person IT team that couldn’t maintain the aging WLAN. Leadership secured funding for a full wired and wireless overhaul but needed a solution that met performance goals without blowing the budget.

Partnering with Northpoint, Neumann deployed a Ruckus solution: a redundant fiber ring with ICX switches, 125 closet switches with full PoE, ~300 Ruckus 802.11ac APs, ZoneDirector controllers and Cloudpath enrollment. The result was dramatic—student Wi‑Fi complaints dropped to less than 1%, coverage and throughput improved across dorms, outdoor spaces and large buildings, multicast video and IP broadcasting run reliably, onboarding is self‑service and secure, and centralized management and device‑level analytics simplified IT operations.
