Case Study: Del Mar College achieves high-performance, cloud-managed Wi‑Fi for digital learning and BYOD with RUCKUS Networks

Del Mar College, a community college in Corpus Christi serving about 25,000 students, needed to modernize its campus Wi‑Fi after legacy equipment failed to support bandwidth‑intensive digital learning (notably a nursing clinical simulation lab), high‑density events, and BYOD—students were limited to registering only one personal device. The CIO mandated a campus‑wide refresh to improve performance, coverage, and cost efficiency.

The college deployed 350 RUCKUS access points managed by RUCKUS Cloud across 45 buildings. The new network supports up to 4× more concurrent users per AP, delivers reliable video for instruction (the nursing lab now runs smoothly with two APs instead of four), enables multiple student devices, handles 250‑person events with just two APs at the CED, and dramatically reduced management overhead so two network specialists can manage the entire system.
