Pioneer Uses Smart Wi-Fi to Slash In-Home IPTV Deployment Costs, Speed Subscriber Installs

Pioneer Telephone, a leading Oklahoma broadband and IPTV provider, faced rising in-home deployment costs and slow install rates as it scaled IPTV to thousands of subscribers. Delivering multicast video to multiple TVs required wiring homes with Cat‑5 cabling, two technicians, and two truck rolls—a 3–4 hour job that limited Pioneer to about three installations per day—while consumer-grade Wi‑Fi proved unreliable for multicast IPTV because of interference and poor multicast handling.

Pioneer deployed the Ruckus MediaFlex smart Wi‑Fi router and adapters, using BeamFlex adaptive antennas and SmartCast traffic prioritization to reliably deliver multicast IPTV over the home wireless network. The solution eliminated one truck roll, cut install time from ~3.5 hours to under 45 minutes, tripled daily subscriber turn‑ups, reduced costs by about 75%, and provided location‑free TV with automated interference mitigation and plug‑and‑play operation.
