A RUCKUS Networks Case Study
Orewa College, a government-funded secondary school near Auckland with about 2,000 students, wanted to introduce a BYOD program but lacked the budget to supply devices and needed a robust, campus-wide wireless network to support thousands of student-owned devices across extensive steel and concrete buildings. The school’s existing patchwork WLAN couldn’t meet the throughput or coverage requirements, so Orewa engaged Isometric Solutions to find a cost-effective, high-density Wi‑Fi solution.
Isometric recommended Ruckus ZoneFlex access points and a ZoneDirector controller, whose adaptive antennas, Smart Mesh networking and centralized management delivered interference-mitigated, high-density coverage and separate networks for students, staff and guests. The pilot saw 400 student devices connect seamlessly with no issues, the network scaled to support the full student roll (≈2,000 devices) without additional WLAN investment, cut deployment and operating costs, simplified administration and enabled a shift toward more student-centered teaching.
