A RUCKUS Networks Case Study
The New Zealand Ministry of Education, working with Crown company Network for Learning (N4L), needed to modernize ICT across more than 2,000 state and state‑integrated schools as monthly data use topped 5.2 million GB and bandwidth demand grew ~30% annually. Aging Wi‑Fi and switched networks, rising BYOD and cybersecurity concerns threatened equitable digital access and classroom productivity.
Through the Te Mana Tūhono programme they standardized on CommScope RUCKUS technology—Wi‑Fi 6 APs, ~30,000 APs, 12,000 ICX switches, 10 Gbps backbone, Cloudpath enrollment and RUCKUS Virtual SmartZone management—while N4L handled design, templating and deployment. The managed, centrally visible solution (500+ schools upgraded so far) will reach about 850,000 students and teachers, improving security and BYOD onboarding, supporting high‑density uses like online exams, and lowering migration costs via standardized equipment and automated provisioning.
