Massive Public Convention Facility Moves to Smarter Wi-Fi to Increase Service Revenues

The Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC), a 3.9 million sq. ft. public convention complex in Atlanta that includes the Georgia Dome and Centennial Olympic Park, was struggling with flaky, spotty Wi‑Fi that couldn’t support high client density, streaming video or voice services. Existing infrastructure of 172 legacy APs produced coverage holes, unstable connections and poor performance during large events, so the onsite provider CCLD Networks needed a more reliable, service‑class wireless solution.

CCLD replaced the legacy system with a Ruckus ZoneFlex deployment—90 dual‑band 802.11n ZoneFlex 7962 APs managed by ZoneDirector 3100 controllers—using smart antenna beamforming, bandsteering, airtime fairness and Smart Mesh networking. The result: 40% fewer APs with broader, more reliable coverage, support for VoIP and video, on‑demand capacity scaling, simpler management, lower total cost of ownership and a Wi‑Fi platform that enabled increased service revenues and future expansion.
