A RUCKUS Networks Case Study
Lodgian, an Atlanta‑based owner/operator of 48 full‑service hotels with more than 8,000 rooms, faced growing guest complaints as device use and streaming needs outpaced its first‑generation 3Com Wi‑Fi. Coverage was spotty, performance erratic, and there was no central management; the company needed to upgrade 34 hotels in 90 days, use fewer APs with better coverage and reliability, extend service to areas without Ethernet, reduce administration and support calls, and enable multimedia and VoIP services.
Lodgian standardized on the Ruckus ZoneFlex system (ZoneDirector controllers, ZoneFlex 2942 APs and Lite Mesh Gateways) with OneMedia Wireless as integrator. The rollout—over 1,000 APs across 34 hotels—delivered full coverage (one 300‑room property converted in under five hours), reduced Wi‑Fi administration by 90% and support calls by 85%, eliminated coverage gaps, centralized management, extended service where cabling didn’t exist, and enabled next‑generation guest services while boosting satisfaction.
