A RUCKUS Networks Case Study
Holland Christian Schools, a six‑school K–12 system in Holland, Michigan serving about 2,200 students and staff and roughly 1,500 Wi‑Fi devices, was struggling with an aging deployment of 100+ 802.11g Apple Airport APs during a major campus renovation. Rising client densities and more demanding applications caused 20–25% packet error rates, frequent dropped connections, self‑interference from dense AP overlap, no centralized management or proactive monitoring, cumbersome MAC‑based authentication, and no easy guest access or way to reach buildings without Ethernet.
The district replaced its legacy gear with 75 Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942 802.11n APs and a ZoneDirector 3250 controller, leveraging integrated high‑gain antennas, smart meshing, adaptive RF and centralized web management. The rollout delivered a three‑fold performance increase, far fewer packet errors and dropped connections, reduced AP count, extended coverage to areas without cabling, simplified guest access and administration, and a noticeably better user experience for students and staff.
