Feeling the Need for Speed and Capacity, Reynoldsburg City Schools Makes Wholesale Move to Ruckus 802.11AC Smart Wi-Fi

Reynoldsburg City Schools, serving 7,000 students and 650 staff across 15 K–12 schools, faced escalating wireless problems as a 1:1 rollout of Chromebooks and tablets increased device density. Their aging Aruba 802.11n network struggled with capacity and stability (APs rebooting under load), costly controller/licensing complexity, and a management interface that was difficult to use—putting online learning, assessments and cloud-based tools at risk.

The district replaced its legacy system with 400+ Ruckus ZoneFlex R700 802.11ac access points managed by redundant ZoneDirector 5000 controllers, enabling centralized, intuitive management, seamless RADIUS/iBoss integration and simplified BYOD onboarding. The upgrade tripled concurrent client capacity, improved coverage and reliability while reducing total cost of ownership and AP count, and freed budget to extend Wi‑Fi to outdoor spaces and support new services like IP cameras.
