A RUCKUS Networks Case Study
Emmanuel College, a private liberal arts school on a 150‑acre campus with 30+ buildings, was plagued by unreliable Wi‑Fi: standalone 802.11g access points frequently froze or disappeared, causing dropped connections and long troubleshooting times, and the IT team lacked centralized visibility or easy integration with Active Directory for secure access.
The college replaced its legacy APs with a Ruckus ZoneFlex 802.11n solution and ZoneDirector controllers, enabling self‑configuring APs, WPA2 and native Active Directory authentication, and smart‑antenna and mesh capabilities for broader coverage. The upgrade tripled performance, eliminated most user complaints, centralized WLAN management, cut problem‑resolution from hours to minutes, and reliably supported services from dining‑hall ID scanning and dorm access to lab device connectivity.
