Embracing Bring-Your-Own-Device via Cloudpath Enrollment System

Fairfax County Public Schools, the 11th largest U.S. district with 180,000 students, 23,000 staff and 194 schools, faced rapidly growing personal device use that relied on an insecure guest Wi‑Fi. The district needed to extend its WPA2‑Enterprise security to thousands of BYOD devices without creating heavy IT overhead, lengthy device setups, or lost classroom time.

FCPS deployed CommScope RUCKUS Cloudpath Enrollment System to provide an automated, self‑service onboarding SSID (FCPSonboard) that configures nearly any device for WPA2‑Enterprise. The solution enabled secure access for 180,000 students and 23,000 staff (about 120,000 concurrent users) with minimal IT involvement, protecting wireless communications and preserving instructional time.
