Preview of the East Side Union High School District Case Study

East Side Union High School District extends free Wi‑Fi to neighborhoods for 22,255 students with RUCKUS Networks

East Side Union High School District, a public school district in California, faced a significant "Homework Gap" where nearly a third of its students lacked internet access at home. To extend the reach of its digital curriculum, the district needed to broadcast its indoor Wi-Fi network into surrounding low-income neighborhoods. The challenge, handled by integration partner SmartWAVE Technologies, was to find a solution that was easy to deploy on city infrastructure, powerful, secure, and simple to manage.

The solution deployed by RUCKUS Networks utilized RUCKUS T610 and T710 Outdoor APs featuring SmartMesh technology, which allowed for quick installation without extensive Ethernet cabling. Managed by SmartZone Network Controllers, these access points provided a strong, interference-free signal. As a result, RUCKUS Networks helped the district seamlessly extend its network outdoors, offering students reliable home internet access to close the Homework Gap and support educational outcomes.
