Case Study: Canterbury College achieves BYOD-ready, high-density campus Wi‑Fi and enhanced student experience with RUCKUS Networks

A RUCKUS Networks Case Study

Preview of the Canterbury College Case Study

Digitized Campus Improves the Teaching and Learning Experience

Canterbury College, a further education college in southeast England serving 9,000 students, was struggling to keep up with a surge in personal and college-owned devices (a 50% increase and 95% smartphone adoption on campus). Piecemeal AP additions and no centralized controller left the Wi‑Fi unable to meet high‑density roaming needs, driving frequent student complaints and placing heavy management burden on a small IT team.

Working with AN Security and Ruckus, the college implemented a BYOD‑ready 802.11ac Wave 2 solution: a pair of Ruckus SmartZone controllers and a campus-wide mix of R500, R710 and T300 access points following a virtual site survey. The deployment delivered stronger coverage, higher throughput and centralized management, enabled guest access, improved security and visibility, and reduced Wi‑Fi complaints by 60%, earning unanimously positive feedback from students and staff.
