A RUCKUS Networks Case Study
Kimpton Hotels, a U.S. boutique chain managing 55 properties, faced a renovation challenge at the 230‑room Palomar Philadelphia: many TV locations had no Ethernet drops but the hotel still needed to deliver concurrent HD IP video‑on‑demand (each stream ~19.2 Mbps) and reliable guest Wi‑Fi without the cost, delay and disruption of running new cabling.
Kimpton piloted a solution with Superclick and Ruckus, then deployed dual‑band 802.11n ZoneFlex access points, MediaFlex 7111 receivers at TVs and a ZoneDirector controller managed by Superclick’s SIMS gateway. The wireless design delivered flicker‑free HD VOD and HSIA over a single network, eliminated the need for extra Cat5 drops (saving up to ~$60,000 per property), sped installation, and enabled flexible future IP services (phones, locks, thermostats, etc.).
