Hunziker Property Management, a long‑standing owner of luxury and student apartments in Ames, Iowa, faced a major retrofit challenge: aging brick-and-concrete buildings and legacy ADSL/VDSL Wi‑Fi left residents—many students with three to four devices each—with poor, insecure connectivity. Overlapping consumer routers and congested channels compounded the problem, and management needed a scalable, secure wireless solution to attract and retain tenants.

Working with ICS and Ruckus, Hunziker replaced legacy gear with a fiber backbone and deployed ZoneFlex R500/R600 access points managed by a ZoneDirector 3000 and secured with Dynamic Pre‑Shared Key (DPSK). The upgrade covered 330 units and delivered an average 20 Mbps up/down per resident (about a 300% performance increase), enabling HD streaming, gaming and VoIP, improving tenant satisfaction and prompting expansion to other properties.
