A RUCKUS Networks Case Study
Greenfield Community Energy and Technology (GCET) is a rate‑payer funded ISP created by the city of Greenfield, Massachusetts to tackle a severe broadband gap that left roughly 40% of residents underserved. The town’s aging infrastructure hindered businesses, students and residents, and local leaders sought a sustainable, taxpayer‑neutral way to deliver reliable, high‑capacity Internet across the rural community.
GCET deployed a Ruckus Wi‑Fi solution—primarily T710 outdoor access points and the virtual SmartZone (vSZ) controller—to deliver fixed wireless, Hotspot 2.0 and in‑home gateway service. The carrier‑class design (initially 900 T710s, AWS‑hosted management) enabled scalable, cost‑optimized gigabit speeds, simplified management and diagnostics, and tiered pricing (including sub‑$10 plans for low‑income households). The rollout is expected to reach about 90% coverage, improve service quality and affordability, and connect students and businesses without costing city taxpayers.
