Chevalier College Connects Better with Ruckus

Chevalier College, a co-educational secondary school in the Southern Highlands of NSW serving 1,150 students, relied on an Apple-based estate of ~800 devices and wanted to expand e-learning with campus-wide Wi‑Fi. Existing consumer-grade equipment (about 20 standalone APs) suffered poor range, frequent connectivity and Mac compatibility issues, and imposed heavy administrative overhead from manual MAC‑filtering and decentralized management.

The college deployed 60 Ruckus ZoneFlex 7962 APs and a ZoneDirector 3000 controller with RADIUS authentication, delivering centralized management, BeamFlex adaptive antennas, Smart Mesh deployment and Dynamic PSK. Eighteen months on, the network provides broad classroom coverage with four SSIDs for staff, students and guests, simultaneous high-density access without bottlenecks, simpler administration (usable by non‑IT staff) and improved security and reliability.
