Case Study: Time Warner Arena achieves high-capacity Wi‑Fi coverage with RUCKUS Networks

A RUCKUS Networks Case Study

Preview of the Time Warner Arena Case Study

Bringing Wireless Broadband to the Time Warner Cable Arena

Time Warner Arena, a 19,000-seat venue in Charlotte, faced the challenge of providing reliable, high-capacity Wi-Fi coverage for fans and staff across its entire facility, from the main bowl to locker rooms and suites. Their legacy system couldn't handle the density of users and interference, especially during major events like the Democratic National Convention. The arena selected RUCKUS Networks to design and implement a new wireless broadband solution to meet these stringent demands.

RUCKUS Networks deployed a strategic solution using 127 access points. For the high-density seating bowl, they utilized narrow beam and sectorized antennas mounted in catwalks and under seats to focus signals and drastically reduce interference. In other areas, adaptive antenna technology ensured comprehensive coverage. This RUCKUS network successfully delivered the required capacity, supporting 12% of the crowd simultaneously, and their ChannelFly technology increased capacity in the 2.4 GHz band by over 56%, providing a robust and future-proof platform for fan engagement.
