Boosting Its Wireless Network with Ruckus and RivaNET

Eton College, a 1,300‑student boys’ boarding school with some 400 campus buildings, needed to move from a largely wired network to a high‑performance wireless environment to support students carrying multiple devices, cloud‑based learning, video in classrooms, IP telephony and strict online safety requirements. Delivering consistent coverage and capacity across boarding houses, classrooms and complex building layouts—while meeting enhanced security and privacy rules—created growing strain as the wireless deployment expanded from about 100 to 700 access points.

Eton engaged RivaNET and deployed Ruckus solutions—Ruckus ICX switches, access points, Cloudpath for policy management, plus iboss cybersecurity—to add 10 GbE/40 GbE capacity, relieve wired bottlenecks, and secure campus traffic. The upgrade delivered reliable, high‑capacity Wi‑Fi campus‑wide, improved support for Office 365, video and IP telephony, provided pay‑as‑you‑grow scalability and better budget predictability, and created a secure, mobile working environment for students and staff.
