Baruch College Transforms Student Technology Experience by Solving User Density and Wi-Fi Interference Challenges

Baruch College, a commuter senior college in the heart of Manhattan serving over 17,000 students across high‑rise buildings spanning five city blocks, faced severe Wi‑Fi problems: its legacy network couldn’t cope with extreme user density, heavy external interference and thousands of smart devices, leading to blind spots, dropped connections and frustrated students.

Baruch deployed 500+ Ruckus ZoneFlex 7962 dual‑band APs with redundant ZoneDirector controllers and FlexMaster management to address density, interference and roaming. The rollout delivered roughly a 10x client throughput improvement and more than 2x client density per AP, eliminated coverage gaps, greatly reduced support calls, simplified guest access and handled campus traffic peaks (over 925 GB in 24 hours).
