Alma School District funded by E-Rate—Online Assessments and Learning Achieved

Alma School District in Alma, Arkansas, serves 3,300 students and 400 staff across four K–12 campuses over 101 square miles. Their legacy wireless network couldn’t keep up with rising device density and statewide online testing—coverage gaps, low capacity and unstable controllers were interrupting instruction and creating constant IT headaches.

With E‑Rate funding and guidance from reseller Windstream, ASD deployed 185 Ruckus ZoneFlex R710 802.11ac Wave 2 access points and a ZoneDirector 3000 for centralized management, completing the rollout in one month. The upgrade eliminated coverage holes, tripled bandwidth, supports over 2,000 concurrent devices (up to 120 per AP) including 1,500 Chromebooks, and simplified management so teachers report no Wi‑Fi complaints.
