A Rubrik Case Study
Cranfield University, a UK postgraduate institution with global research and teaching activities, needed a more resilient, cost-effective disaster recovery and data management strategy. Their previous approach—replicating to a third‑party host and managing siloed infrastructure—was expensive, slow to recover, and left them unable to fully restore services if both on‑site datacentres failed; they also lacked granular point‑in‑time recovery for Oracle RMAN and SQL workloads.
Cranfield deployed Rubrik to archive and replicate data to Microsoft Azure and to enable cloud instantiation (CloudOn), using policy‑based, API‑driven management and incremental‑forever backups. The result: faster recoveries (RTOs for VMs, SQL and Oracle reduced from hours to minutes), 83% less backup management time, a 26% reduction in TCO and ~55% lower off‑site replication costs, a ~75% smaller data‑center footprint, and improved security/compliance with immutable, end‑to‑end encrypted backups.
