City of Lodi Switches to Rubrik to Bolster Its Disaster Recovery Following Ransomware Attack with Previous Backup Solution

The City of Lodi, a California municipality serving over 60,000 residents, suffered repeated ransomware attacks in 2018–2019 that crippled critical services — including four days of CAD dispatch downtime — and forced a month-long recovery to restore more than 100 virtual machines, plus a week of ERP data loss. Their Windows-based, file-level backup solution was vulnerable to encryption, produced frequent failures, and required slow, manual rebuilds of VMs.

Working with partner ePlus, Lodi replaced its legacy system with Rubrik, gaining immutable backups that can’t be corrupted, fast VM-level restores, and policy-driven, reliable backups. The new approach simplified management, reduced recovery time and manual effort, delivered cost savings, and positioned the city to extend disaster recovery to the cloud.
