Castilleja Keeps Instructional Time Running with Rubrik

Castilleja, a Palo Alto independent school founded in 1907 serving 438 students, faced a fragmented IT environment that produced lengthy recovery times and occasional service outages. Their legacy backup stack—repurposed storage, a single backup server and tape—required expensive capacity overhead and extra licenses, and restores could take up to an hour, putting instructional time at risk.

Castilleja deployed Rubrik with AWS S3 to provide VM- and file-level recovery, instant global search and the ability to mount backups for staging and test/dev. The new converged solution cut RTOs to minutes, reduced datacenter footprint from 11U to 2U, moved 44 TB to pay-as-you-go S3, delivered 3–4x savings over tape, and lowered overall capex by about 10% while simplifying long‑term retention and operations.
