Reinford Farms turns 4,134 tons of milk into energy with Rubicon

The customer, Reinford Farms, faced the challenge of managing expired milk from a large retail chain, which sought an alternative to simply pouring it down the drain. The vendor, Rubicon, was engaged to provide an organics recycling solution to handle this waste.

Rubicon implemented a solution where the expired milk was sent to Reinford Farms for anaerobic digestion. This process breaks down the milk into biogas, which generates electricity for the farm and powers 500 local homes, and digestate, a natural fertilizer. In 2019, Rubicon's program diverted 4,134 tons of milk from waste, avoiding 2,414 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
