Reduce Costs and Implement a Sustainability Program for Wood Waste

National Window and Door Manufacturing Company worked with Rubicon to address rising waste costs and improve sustainability across multiple U.S. facilities. The company was sending large volumes of sawdust and wood waste to landfills, and the frequency and weight of pickups were driving up fees from both haulers and landfill operators. It needed a waste management partner to reduce costs, increase diversion, and streamline billing.

Rubicon analyzed the company’s waste streams and implemented a cost-efficient hauling and waste diversion program, sending all wood waste to a compost facility and optimizing pickup frequency. Rubicon also used hauler bidding to improve pricing for non-recyclable waste and consolidated billing across facilities and vendors. The results included an 81% diversion rate, 23% annual net savings, one invoice for wood waste and consolidated invoices for other waste, and reduced pickup frequency through compactor optimization.
