Modular Software Infrastructure to Monitor, Control and Collect Real-Time Equipment Analytics

Komatsu, a worldwide leader in mining solutions and industrial equipment, needed a more flexible software architecture and modular infrastructure to replace its homegrown middleware and aging hardware. The company wanted a way to easily add applications to its machines, focus more on applications than infrastructure, and support real-time data collection and analytics. RTI and its Connext DDS product suite were selected to help meet those goals.

RTI implemented Connext DDS across Komatsu’s embedded controller and Windows environments, enabling data to flow between systems, be recorded for equipment analysis, and forwarded to the mine site for deeper analytics. The result was a scalable, upgradeable platform that improved equipment monitoring, uptime, safety, and predictive maintenance capabilities. RTI’s solution also helped Komatsu support its Smart Services program with more reliable real-time insights.
