Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) needed a way to create a secure, real-time Common Operating Picture across different aircraft and domains, despite highly proprietary avionics layers that made integration slow and costly. Working with RTI, IAI sought to speed up the addition of new airborne applications and improve interoperability for its Operational Avionics Layer (OPAL).

RTI Connext DDS was used as the core connectivity technology inside IAI’s OPAL framework, enabling a shared data dictionary and publish/subscribe communications across platforms. As a result, IAI reduced application integration timelines from about 60 months to roughly five months, cutting effort and operational costs while helping OPAL align with FACE 3.1 and support MOSA requirements.
