A RTI Case Study
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) develops advanced unmanned aircraft systems and ground control stations for platforms like the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper. To support real-time acquisition, analysis, and response across its Ground Control Station network, the company needed a data distribution solution that could handle high bandwidth, availability, and strict timing requirements. RTI provided Connext DDS to address these needs.
RTI Connext DDS enabled General Atomics to build a standards-based real-time data exchange architecture without writing extensive custom code. This let GA-ASI focus on cockpit electronics, software integration, and user interface improvements while completing the major Advanced Cockpit GCS upgrade in just 14 months and successfully demonstrating the solution in flight in July 2007. The result was improved situational awareness, reduced pilot workload, and better data coordination for UAS operations.
