A RTI Case Study
BK Ultrasound, a medical ultrasound systems company, launched a multi-year research program to move beyond standalone devices and toward more distributed, integrated healthcare systems. The challenge was to preserve current functionality, reliability, and performance while improving integration with hospital systems, research labs, regulatory compliance, and future Industrial IoT and cybersecurity needs. RTI Connext DDS was identified as the key technology foundation for this effort.
RTI helped BK Ultrasound build a global databus and data-centric architecture that decouples applications, supports independent development, and manages real-time data delivery across wired and wireless networks without tying systems to specific hardware or topology. The approach improved flexibility, enabled plug-and-play and fine performance control, and supported real-time response in distributed systems, while also making it easier to add security later with RTI Connext DDS Secure. The case study does not provide quantitative results, but it states that the architecture positions BK Ultrasound for stronger system integration and future Industrial IoT readiness.
