Stitch Fix, a personalized styling service, blends machine learning with human styling expertise to delight customers. Chief Algorithms Officer Eric Colson identified a damaging divide between data science (algorithms) and analytics (business intelligence) that fragmented context and left teams working in silos.

Stitch Fix merged analytics into the data science team and adopted RStudio, Shiny and Shiny Server Pro so scientists could turn analyses into lightweight web apps. The approach delivered a couple dozen Shiny apps—used by roughly half the company weekly—to monitor algorithms, expose curated analyses and dashboards, and strengthen a data-driven culture across the organization.
