Cava, a fast‑casual restaurant and CPG brand focused on healthy, customizable food, needed a way to deliver secure, easy‑to‑use analytics to managers in an industry that isn’t traditionally data driven. Chief Data Scientist Josh Patchus sought a solution that was powerful, visually appealing, easy to navigate, and allowed managers to change model parameters and control access to sensitive data.

Cava built role‑based, highly customizable dashboards using R, Shiny and Shiny Server Pro, leveraging dplyr/tidyr/ggplot2 for flexible exploration and Shiny’s “dashboards within dashboards” approach. With authentication and sliced access across subdomains like Finance, Stores, Marketing and Supply Chain, the rollout increased adoption: casual users see curated static views while advanced users interactively explore data to generate their own insights.
