A Resource Innovations Case Study
ComEd, the largest electric utility in Illinois serving roughly 3.8 million customers, faced low small-business engagement in its energy-efficiency programs: many owners were unaware of opportunities and lacked the time, money, and resources to pursue upgrades. Resource Innovations partnered with ComEd to design and implement the Small Business offering, using a closed network of local Energy Efficiency Service Providers and a Mobile Assessment Tool to create a simple, community-focused path to participation.
Resource Innovations trained and equipped local Service Providers with online tools and outreach materials, enabling on-site assessments, immediate recommendations, streamlined processing (nearly 8,000 projects annually), and turnkey installations. The program has helped more than 42,000 customers achieve over 1,000 GWh gross savings since 2011, saved over $100 million in first-year energy costs, paid more than $60 million in incentives, delivered examples like a 20% cut in energy use at Superdawg, and earned industry awards for its impact.
