A RR Donnelley Case Study
State Government Agency was using a cumbersome, multi-step process to produce handicap placards for designated residents. The work required three full-time employees to make 300–400 placards per day, relied on unreliable heat seal machines, and was further complicated by hot weather that affected placard integrity and legibility. RR Donnelley (RRD) was brought in to help streamline the production process.
RR Donnelley collaborated with the agency and designed a simplified solution using a single 8 1/2" x 14" sheet die-cut into a butterfly hangtag for simplex laser printing. The new process met statutory requirements, held up in extreme heat, and cut production from three FTEs to one person spending about 1.5 hours per day. RR Donnelley also eliminated heat seal equipment and maintenance costs, reduced errors, and simplified two variable-printed pieces into one form and one print pass.
