Labeling Solution Reduces Printers Required Onsite By 66%

Large Automotive Parts Supplier Company was looking for a way to simplify its end-of-line labeling process. The company had been using three printers at each line, each loaded with a different direct thermal label color, to identify part type and end user after inspection. RR Donnelley helped address the complexity and reduce the risk of user error with a custom labeling approach.

RR Donnelley designed a single label with three color blocks, allowing one printer to cover two colors and expose only the correct color while printing the barcode. This reduced the number of printers needed onsite by 66%—eliminating 36 of 54 printers—and cut the chance of loading the wrong stock into the wrong machine. The customer is also evaluating a single six-color option to replace multiple incumbent labels, creating additional savings in inventory and process efficiency.
