Automated Labeling Process Eliminates Manual Intervention

Large Silicone Product Manufacturer worked with RR Donnelley to improve a silicone-products labeling process that relied on offline printing and manual label pickup and application. The company wanted to eliminate manual intervention, reduce label waste and shortages caused by fixed daily print runs, and enable true print-on-demand inline labeling from the control room.

RR Donnelley designed a custom drum and 5-gallon pail print-and-apply system with an integrated thermal transfer printer and centralized labeling software. Operators can request labels and quantities from the office, and the system prints and applies them automatically with wrinkle-free application; it also adjusts for pail labeling as needed. The solution provided real-time regulatory accuracy and proved effective enough to earn an initial test order plus a commitment for five additional units.
