Case Study: Global mining company achieves haulage decarbonisation and 100% diesel elimination with RPMGlobal's electrification study

A RPMGlobal Case Study

Preview of the Global Mining Company Case Study

RPMGlobal helps leading miner chart path toward decarbonisatio

Global Mining Company engaged RPMGlobal’s Consulting & Advisory services to investigate electrifying its mine haulage—identified as the largest consumer of diesel and biggest source of on-site emissions. The study evaluated a combined solution of trolley-assist overhead lines, electric drive haul trucks, mobile equipment batteries and MW-scale batteries to determine feasibility and required infrastructure.

RPMGlobal used a dynamic scoping approach, leveraging its Advisory team alongside the Open Pit Metals scheduling solution and HAULSIM to model haul routes, battery discharge and diesel savings, and worked with equipment and electrical suppliers to test practicality. RPMGlobal demonstrated a reliable electric haulage system across open-cut profiles, showed 100% elimination of haulage diesel in studied pit designs (a base-case deep mine saving about 80 million tonnes of diesel per annum), confirmed every haul cycle could be completed on battery alone, identified trolley infrastructure needs of 4–17 km, and recommended optimizations to reduce cost and boost productivity.
