The customer, a regional municipality in Ontario, Canada, faced a significant challenge when attempting to integrate a Watson portlet application within the virtual portal of their IBM WebSphere Portal server. This integration was officially unsupported by IBM, preventing them from using new features like Watson Analytics. They engaged the vendor, Royal Cyber, to resolve this and to manage a full migration from their older WebSphere Portal 6.1 environment.

Royal Cyber implemented a specialized procedure to install the Watson portlet and configure single sign-on (SSO) with the portal, successfully enabling the unsupported integration with the virtual portal. The vendor also executed a full migration to WebSphere Portal 8.5, making all applications responsive and configuring SSO with AD federation services. As a result, the municipality gained the desired modernized portal with advanced analytics capabilities and a seamless user authentication experience.
