One of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers faced the challenge of rapidly expanding its production capacity to meet surging global demand. The company needed to build a new fabrication plant with a highly reliable and automated facility monitoring and control system (FMCS) to prevent production disruptions and ensure product quality. They engaged vendor RoviSys to implement the automation technology for the FMCS, ultrapure water system, and process vacuum system.

RoviSys implemented a high-availability, fault-tolerant control system using Siemens technology, including a redundant SIMATIC S7-400H PLC and ET 200SP HA distributed I/O over PROFINET. Despite pandemic-related challenges, RoviSys completed the FMCS implementation in less than 10 months. The new fab is expected to add capacity for 450,000 wafers per year, and the solution established a new template for the customer's future expansion projects.
