RouteSmart Gives the City of Richardson’s BABIC Program a Lift

The City of Richardson, Texas, faced inefficiencies in its Brush and Bulky Item Collection (BABIC) program when drivers manually designed daily routes within fixed grids based on resident calls, causing unbalanced workloads, extra mileage, and wasted man-hours and fuel. To address this, the City of Richardson implemented RouteSmart Technologies’ routing system (using RouteSmart’s Macro Language) to automate and optimize daily BABIC routing.

RouteSmart Technologies integrated the city’s address database to geographically match service calls to parcels and generate balanced, turn-by-turn routes overnight, printed for supervisors and drivers. The solution reduced driver time on the road and vehicle mileage, cutting fuel and maintenance costs, quickly paid for itself, improved driver and supervisor satisfaction, and is now being extended to rental inspector and residential recycling routing.
