Case Study: Daventry District Council achieves over £100,000 annual savings and 12% diesel cost reduction with RouteSmart Technologies

A RouteSmart Technologies Case Study

Optimising waste collection using OS MasterMap® Integrated Transport Network™ Layer

Daventry District Council faced rising demand for waste collection, housing growth and regulatory pressure to reduce landfill while cutting costs. To meet these challenges the council engaged RouteSmart Technologies, using the RouteSmart ArcGIS-based routing solution together with Ordnance Survey’s OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Network (ITN) Layer and Route Restriction Information (RRI) to improve the precision of route planning.

RouteSmart Technologies modelled and optimised Daventry’s refuse rounds (augmenting OS MasterMap ITN/RRI with local data), enabling the council to reduce routes (nine to eight), cut diesel consumption by 12%, increase spare vehicle capacity by 14%, eliminate overtime and achieve projected savings of around £100,000 per year; the RouteSmart licence has also been adopted by the Northamptonshire Waste Partnership to roll out and maintain these efficiencies county‑wide.
