Morrison Data Services and Integrated Skills (UK) Optimize Meter Reading with RaaS

Morrison Data Services (MDS) is a UK meter-reading services provider supporting major energy and water companies, with operations spanning millions of reads each year. MDS faced challenges with unordered address lists, inconsistent source data, and inefficient walking/driving routes that wasted time, increased physical strain on readers, and raised fuel and carbon costs. RouteSmart Technologies, working with Integrated Skills, was brought in to help solve these issues using Routing-as-a-Service (RaaS).

RouteSmart Technologies implemented a cloud-based RaaS solution with address validation, geocoding, nightly system syncs, and safe, rules-aware route optimisation, including ferry-aware routing where needed. The result was more efficient routes, improved productivity and employee satisfaction, lower fuel use and vehicle wear, and reduced emissions, helping MDS win the Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practices. The rollout now supports 950+ readers, with routes ready for handheld devices the next day, and MDS is already planning future optimisation stages.
